Agarwal was born in Ajmer, Rajasthan. His father was a senior officer in the Indian Department of Atomic Energy and his mother is a retired economics professor from the Veermata Jijabai Institute of Technology in Mumbai.
Parag Agarwal completed his final year of higher secondary education at Atomic Energy Junior College, Mumbai in 2001. In the same year, he won a gold medal at the International Physics Olympiad held in Antalya, Turkey. he obtained a Bachelor of Technology degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay In 2005.
